Marsha Goodwin North is the current TSSAA State Supervisor of Officials/CAVOA Assigner. She has refereed, coached, and played for more than 40 years. She currently is also a Board Chair for the Southeastern Collegiate Officials Board, as affiliated board with PAVO/NCAA and still referees collegiate volleyball. Dan Wadley is currently serving as President of CAVOA after completing a term as Ethics Chair. He has been officiating for the last 18 years. He coached volleyball at Tn. Temple during the 1990s while also coaching basketball. He stepped down as basketball coach after coaching for over 35 years.
He is entering his 40th year of teaching, the last 14 years teaching Biblical Ethics and New Testament at The McCallie School in Chattanooga. He is currently working with Model UN as well as sponsor of McCallie’s Mock Trial team.
His love for volleyball began 25 years ago when he began the volleyball program at Tn. Temple Academy. After stepping down as Temple’s coach he began to officiating at the urging of Marsha Goodwin North.

Mike Hawkins is the CAVOA Secretary. He first got involved with volleyball when he was 18 years old playing in a local outdoor Co-ed league in Chattanooga. From there, he became more involved by playing in the Men’s A/Open Junior Olympic Volleyball League traveling around the Southeast playing in various national tournaments. Mike met his wife, Rhonda, in 1988 while she was playing volleyball for the UTC Lady Mocs. After his playing days were over, his knowledge and love for the game led him into coaching with the very first volleyball club in Chattanooga, Dig to Win. He later joined the coaching ranks at Choo-Choo Volleyball. In 1999, he started officiating with TSSAA and has twenty years of experience refereeing at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. He has officiated in four TSSAA State Volleyball Championship Tournaments. Mike also coached alongside his wife for a local high school in Chattanooga where he led them to two consecutive District Championships. He continues to enjoy officiating at all levels of play, including USA Volleyball Tournaments throughout the South. Don Ziemer serves as the CAVOA treasurer. He has been a TSSAA Official since 2005 (volleyball, basketball, & baseball). Previously, he served as a member-at-large and vice-president of CAVOA. While he does not have a background in volleyball, he was able to learn the game through practice and study. Don had the privilege of working the 2018 TSSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
Margaret is from Memphis, Tennessee where she played volleyball for 8 years. She has the privilege of serving as a Member at Large for CAVOA and officiates both TSSAA and USA Volleyball. The 2020-2021 Volleyball Season begins with an appointment on the Board from Secretary to Ref Training Chair. I will be starting my 7th year as a TSSAA/USA official, 4th year PAVO Certified Collegiate Line Judge, and first year as PAVO Collegiate Official.
I’m a 1984 graduate from the University of The South(Sewanee) with a B.A. in Economics where I played college Basketball and Tennis. I currently am a merchant consultant for a credit card processing company after 20 years of owning and operating King of Kleen Car Wash.
I have two wonderful daughters, Samantha(23yrs) and Julia(18yrs), that play(ed) High School Volleyball and have allowed me to balance the act of Parent, Spectator, and Official. What a community the volleyball “Family” is. I look forward to serving again on the CAVOA Board as I continue watching my girls play/coach volleyball and continue learning to become the best official possible.

Janice Byrd is a 20-year veteran with TSSAA volleyball. She has successfully served in several positions on the CAVOA board, including president. Janice currently holds the position of Vice-President. She has been serving as a college volleyball official since 2009. She is a USA Volleyball Official, holds a Jr. National rating and has worked the state finals in every capacity. She has been married to Alonzo Byrd since 2001 and has 4 children: Tia Woods, Alonzo Byrd Jr., Kentoni Byrd, and Tyler Byrd. From this clan she inherited 5 grandchildren, Faith and Christian Woods, Amyiah and Jeremiah Byrd, and KJ Byrd.
Janice loves the sport of volleyball and is very excited to see it take off in the south like it has in the last couple of years. She is happy to participate and give back to this sport that has given her so much. Janice is always looking to recruit new and younger officials and help nurture them in this game of volleyball. Her daughter, Tia, played volleyball in high school and now her granddaughter, Faith, has taken to the sport. Janice is so excited to see what the future will bring!

Kim Wilkerson is the current Ethics chair of CAVOA. She started her officiating career in 1998 with TSSAA. Her love and growth for officiating volleyball has carried her to the collegiate level since 2008. She is a Jr. National referee for USA Volleyball.
